A busy show can see over 300 visitors to Chequer Mead Theatre within a handful of hours, all expecting the best customer service and a great night out.

If you love meeting new people and helping others while working in an exciting environment, volunteering as a box office assistant maybe for you.

We welcome a wide audience from every part of the community and need friendly, welcoming faces to ensure each visit is the best it can possibly be.

As a box office assistant, you'll work at the theatre box office, taking bookings via our online box office, handing out collection orders, and being on hand to help with general enquiries.

Skills

Box office assistants form part of the FOH team, which also consists of stewards and bar assistants. All 3 of these areas are essential to the running of the theatre during performance times. As an active theatre with up to 10 performances a week during our busiest periods, having a friendly, confident team of volunteers supporting the Duty Managers ensures the smooth operation of the theatre.

No experience working as a box office assistant previously is required. We will provide you with full induction and training, though you may find some previous experience working with the public and computers beneficial. All volunteers are invited to a monthly update meeting for ongoing support.

There is no minimum or maximum amount of time volunteer box office assistants need to commit and shifts vary each season depending on the theatre programme. Shifts last 3 hours on average with options of afternoon or evening work to suit your convenience.
